Agreeing to these terms

These terms apply when you use heatpumptoronto.com or the Heat Pump Toronto apps (the "service"), run by Heat Pump Toronto. By using the service you agree to them. You must be 18 or older, and the owner of the home or authorized by its owner. Installers also agree to our Contractor Terms.

What we do — and don’t do

We help you understand heat pumps and rebates, and connect you with independent installers who serve your area. The service is free for homeowners.

• We are not a contractor. We don’t sell equipment or perform installation work.
• Installers are independent businesses, not our employees or agents.
• Any agreement for work is between you and the installer you choose. We are not a party to it and don’t guarantee the installer’s work, prices, schedule or warranty.
• We check installers’ licence and insurance before they receive requests, but you should still make your own checks before you hire.

Estimates and rebates

Cost, sizing and rebate figures on the service are estimates based on published information and the answers you give. They are not quotes, and not a promise that you will receive a rebate.

• Rebate programs decide eligibility and the final amount. Their rules can change.
• You pay your installer the full price. After installation, the program mails the rebate to you as a cheque.
• If you ask us to handle your rebate application, you authorize us to submit it for you and agree to give accurate information and documents. The program’s decision is not ours.

Your account

Give accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us right away if you think someone else has used your account. You’re responsible for activity in your account. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

What you share

You keep ownership of the information, photos and documents you add. You give us permission to use them to run the service, including sharing them with the installers matched to your project, as described in our Privacy Policy. Only share content you have the right to share.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

• Submit false requests or requests on someone else’s behalf without their permission
• Harass installers, homeowners or our staff
• Copy or collect information from the service with automated tools
• Interfere with the service, its security, or other people’s use of it
• Use the service for anything illegal

Your consumer rights

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002 or other laws that can’t be waived. Those laws also apply to your agreement with your installer — for example, rules about written contracts and, for some agreements, a cancellation (cooling-off) period.

Disclaimers and limits

We work to keep the service accurate and available, but it is provided as it is, and we can’t promise it will always be error-free or uninterrupted. To the extent the law allows, we aren’t responsible for installers’ work or conduct, for decisions made by rebate programs, or for indirect losses. Where the law allows us to limit our liability, it is limited to the amount, if any, you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

Our content

The service’s text, design, guides and software belong to Heat Pump Toronto or its licensors. You may use them for your own, non-commercial purposes. Program and brand names belong to their owners. Links to other websites are for your convenience; we don’t control their content.

Changes and ending

We may change the service or these terms. We’ll post changes here with a new date and tell account holders about important ones. You can stop using the service and ask us to close your account at any time.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Disputes go to the courts of Ontario, without taking away any right you have as a consumer to bring a claim elsewhere.
