After your heat pump is installed: the 30-day paperwork, your rebate cheque and quality checks
With Home Renovation Savings, one step is left after the heat pump is running. Here is what the official rules say about the post-installation application, the final invoice, your cheque and random quality audits.
Your heat pump is in and running. For the Home Renovation Savings rebate, there is still one step left. Here is what the official program rules say happens next.
Who does the paperwork
Home Renovation Savings is the Ontario program open now. It is brought to you by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. Under its rules, the participating HVAC contractor submits the information and documents on your behalf.
The 30-day post-installation application
Within 30 days after the installation, the contractor must submit the post-installation application. It includes:
- A copy of the final invoice, or the signed rental agreement.
- Photos of the installed heat pump and the thermostat.
- Information about the equipment and the installation.
- Any other documents the program asks for.
The final invoice must be fully itemized. It must include all the details shown in the program's sample invoice. You can ask your contractor to tell you when the application has been sent.
Approval and your cheque
You and the contractor are told in writing whether the post-installation application is approved. If it is approved, you are eligible for the rebate. If it is not approved, you are not eligible.
Once it is approved, the cheque should arrive by mail within 60 days.
Random quality checks
A portion of heat pump installations are chosen at random for Quality Assurance audits. The program says these audits make sure installations meet program requirements. They are done by third-party evaluators, Ecolighten Energy Solutions and Bowser Technical.
The program also says Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas do not solicit residential customers by phone or door to door. If someone calls or visits claiming to represent Save on Energy, be careful and contact saveonenergy@ieso.ca.
None of this works without the first steps
The steps after installation only count if the steps before it were followed. Pre-approval is mandatory. Installations done before approval are not eligible. The contractor must also be registered and listed with the program before the installation. For the full order of steps, see Home Renovation Savings, explained.
The federal rebate is separate
The federal National Heat Pump Rebate was announced on October 8, 2026. Canada.ca says it will be available through an online portal in early 2027, and that the retroactivity period starts on November 1, 2026. Eligibility rules and how to apply are to be published as of November 1, 2026. Until then, we cannot say what the federal program will ask for after an installation.
If you would like help from start to finish, you can check your rebate and ask for a free quote. If you go ahead, our team arranges one licensed, insured installer and files the rebate application for you.
